With so many beauty products today coming out of a bottle or jar, it’s easy to forget where real beauty comes from inside yourself. Modern skin care advertisements often make health and beauty look complicated, and lead us to believe that in order to remain attractive and youthful looking, we need a variety of chemicals and secret formulas. But, there is more to beauty than moisturisers and anti-wrinkle creams, as it’s important to not only take great care about what we are putting into and on to our bodies, but how our thoughts and emotions can have an effect on how we physically look.
When we’re stressing out about something whether it be relationship trouble, finances or work, we rarely stop to consider how this is taking its toll on our physical appearance. We all like a simple solution to fix a problem, however this often involves ignoring the cause. Stress isn’t just a mental state it starts to have an adverse effect on how we look by making skin appear dry and pale, and muscle tension in the face can cause wrinkles and lines. In addition to this, when we feel stressed and anxious we often end up neglecting our health, indulging in a convenience diet of caffeine, sugar and alcohol, all of which can result in dull, dry looking skin that is caused by the effect these have on skin cell hydration.
Since we have established that stress and anxiety can be one of the main causes of dry skin and wrinkles, it makes sense to include meditation in your beauty regime. Along with a healthy diet and exercise, meditation is an effective activity to use in order to level out stresses and reduce anxiety, help you relax and give yourself time to sit back, breathe and regain perspective. In turn, the reduction in stress and anxiety that you will experience from taking part in meditation will show physically, as your facial muscles become less tense and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and skin hydration improves.
If you want to begin meditating but aren’t sure how, this is a simple meditation exercise for natural beauty. Sit comfortably and close your eyes and mouth, breathing normally. Be aware of your breathing, and focus on steadily inhaling and exhaling. Try to take your mind away from your thoughts as you focus solely on your breathing. If a thought pops into your head, acknowledge it, then brush it aside. This will continue to happen, but as you practice more, it will become easier to regain your focus on the meditation.
