HARRINGTON, Del.- A 45-year-old Harrington man is facing more than two dozen rape charges following accusations that he had sex with an underage girl on multiple occasions.
Harrington police said Tuesday's arrest of Robert J. Pickle stemmed from an investigation into a reported rape that had allegedly occurred on the 16000 block of South DuPont Highway.
Police said detectives, with the assistance of the Child Advocacy Center, determined that the 15-year-old victim and Pickle began communicating via an electronic social network. Investigators said they also found out that between the months of February and September the victim and Pickle engaged in sex acts on several different occasions at Pickle's home and in the Slaughter Beach area.
As a result of the investigation, Pickle was taken into custody at his home on Tuesday and charged with 26 counts of third-degree rape and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child. He was ordered held in the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $675,000 secured bond.
